God has blessed all of humankind with more than enough. A growing, maturing Christian recognizes this blessedness from God and realizes that each of us has more than enough to share with others.
In a burst of enthusiasm, Kaitlyn's face lit up as she informed the pastor, "I have an idea for a project." Each year the church school classes of the small congregation chose two special mission projects to support financially. Most were modest projects with easily reached goals. This idea stretched the boundaries of what could be easily accomplished.
Kaitlyn suggested that the children and youth raise $1,000 to purchase a well, water pump, and training through one of the church's wider ministries. The new well would provide a remote village with access to clean water. Her enthusiasm grew as she described a plan for preparing water bottles to serve as coin containers, creating a wall mural of a pump in use, sharing information about water use in North America and around the world, and exploring Bible passages referring to water.
Within a few weeks coin containers were ready, a mural had been painted by one of the youth, information on clean water and water use posted, and a creative children's sermon offered. Over forty households received a coin container. Some reported they had placed their containers near a bathroom or kitchen sink, where water use was conspicuous; on a breakfast table, where coins were added first thing in the morning; or on a nightstand, where they would empty their pockets at the close of the day. Some of the containers found their way to places of work.
Within the first week one of the youth brought his container filled with coins he had been saving as well as some he had gathered from around the house. His container held $45.87. A hint of what was to come. A glimpse of God's more than enough.
