At their January 2011 meeting, the Leadership Council of Faith-Based Foundations & Development Offices (formerly the Estate & Financial Planning Forum Group) approved developing a salary and compensation study for faith-based foundations and development offices. The study is one initiative that the Council developing to serve the needs of the group and promote the common good. "While the denominations, faiths, and creeds of those who participate in Leadership Council are different, we face many of the same challenges and have a great deal in common," said Paul McLaughlin, President of the Moravian Ministries Foundation in America and a member of the Compensation Study Committee. "We hope the study will provide information that will help our organizations as they wrestle with questions such as: What is a fair, reasonable, and competitive salary policy and plan for an organization like ours? What are the industry standards? What do we need to remain fair and competitive with our faith-based and secular brothers and sisters? What are appropriate measures, given our faith-based connections?" Other Committee members are Perkin Simpson, Vice President of Finance for the American Baptist Foundation; Donald G. Hart, President of United Church Funds; Jared A. Fears, Coordinator, Estate & Financial Planning for the Community of Christ; and Paul Grier, Regional Vice-President/Eastern USA and Acting Chief Development Officer for the Presbyterian Church Foundation (USA). The Committee began the project by developing and posting a confidential online survey with a completion deadline of July 29 and hopes to distribute a preliminary report this fall. The Leadership Council of Faith-Based Foundations & Development Offices is one of five Forum Groups facilitated by the Ecumenical Stewardship Center. The Council gathers associates in the fields of gift planning and estate planning to share new techniques, strategies, and resources, and to discuss tax laws affecting potential donors. The 2012 meeting of the Council of Faith-Based Foundations and Development Offices will be January 23-25, 2012, location to be determined.
